We anticipate the life
of this mine to be between 4 and 10 years depending on the demand
for material in the Sterling area. The deposit is a terrace
deposit of the Rocky Flats Alluvium. it is deposited on topographic
knobs and noses along the entire terrace that runs approximately
northwest southeast in this part of the county. The thickness of
the mineral deposit varies from 12 to 45 feet and averages approxi-
mately 30 feet. At rare locations, the thickness may reach 50
feet or more. These bald knobs and noses have an extremely thin ~;'
layer of topsoil, only two to three inches, any soil encountered ~^5,~~~
will be saved for reclamation purposes. S~`yp~,.
The entrance road is an existing road that crosses the parcel
and continues on to the north. It is currently 20 feet wide and
the location is shown on the map exhibit supplied with this applica-
tion. Periodic grading will be necessary to keep the road in its
present condition and to make it passable. Since it already /
exists it is not part of this application as allowed by law. ~/
The only water to be used at this site will be to reduce dust
on the road. This water will be obtained from sources approved
for that use. There was no indication of water in any of the test
holes we drilled and we do not expect to encounter any ground
water in the pit. During heavy rains there may be some water
moving down the drainages on the north and east of the affected
lands. Since these drainages define the pit it may cause water to ~
accumulate in the pit at these times but this pit will not impound
that water.
Any soil stockpile areas will be located on the bench created
when mining reaches bedrock.
