This map unit rnnsists of exposures of sliderock and , <br />~~ other rock material formed on steep and very steep mountain sides, at the <br />base of cliffs and ridges, in alpine valleys, and i~irque basins. Zt <br />5h <br />consists primarily of rock material ranging in site from gravel to'bvulders. <br />55 <br />Zt is predominately rhyolite, tuff and similar volcanic rocks although a few <br />areas contain granite and schist. Slopes range from 15 to 100 percent. <br />Elevation ranges from 8,300 to 24,000 feet. Average annual precipitation <br />ranges from 18 to 45 inches. Average annual air temperature ranges from 26 <br />to 38 degrees F., and the frost-free season ranges from 20 to 10 days. <br />included in this unit is about IO percent Hoek outcrop and small areas <br />of Henson very gravelly Loam and Vanden sto»y Ioem. <br />This map unit is used as wildlife habitat, recreation, scenic areas, <br />water catchment areas, and for construction materials. <br />Native vegetation is sparse and occurs mostly on small areas of <br />~. <br />inclusions. Zt varies largely with elevation and consists mostly of alpine <br />grasses ana fortis above timberline, and aspen, Engelmann spruce, and grasses <br />at lower elevations. <br />Poor stnbility,s tones, and slopes are severe limitations for road <br />construction and other engineering uses of this unit. Some of the <br />accessible areas of this unit are used as a source of opnstruction materials <br />for road building. <br />It has sevesre limitations for most recreational uses. Zt is Limited to <br />paths arni trails which should extend across the slope. <br />Wildlife such as marmots, eagles, hawks, pike, and squirrels use this <br />unit. Zt provides concealment and nesting areas for many species. They <br />obtain food from inclusions and nearby soils. <br />
