Introduction
The active Seneca II Mine Permit (State Permit No. C-005-80, Federal
Permit No. CO-006) was originally submitted to the Division on December
30. 1980 under Colorado's Permanent Regulatory Program and was
subsequently approved on September 23, 1981. Four five-year renewals
have been issued since Permit C-80-005 was originally approved; the
first on February 17, 1987, the second on February 17, 1992, the third
on July 25, 1997 and the Fourth on February 17, 2002. The current
yermit term extends to February 17, 2007.

The Seneca II Mine is a surface type mine with non-federal surface land
ownership and both federal (258) and non-federal (758) mineral ownership
of the coal resource. The mine is located six (6) miles southeast of
the town of Hayden, Routt County, Colorado at an elevation of
approximately 7500 feet. A copy of the permit application package is
filed at the Hayden Public Library in Hayden, Colorado for public
inspection.
