• 2.06.8 Surface Coal Mining and Reclamation on Areas or Adiacent to Areas Using Alluvial Vallev Floors Based on past field investigations for previous permit applications for coal mining operations along the North Fork of the Gunnison River near Somerset, the Division has determined that no alluvial valley floors occur in the general area which could be affected by mining activities near Somerset. Therefore, no Special Performance Standards for operations in alluvial valley floors are applicable to this permit revision, and no protective or remedial measures are proposed for compliance with this part. The investigations in the general area resulted in no identifica- tion of alluvial valley floors based on geological and geomorphic criteria. The geology and geomorphic conditions of the area are shown on the Regional Geology Map (Map 5). In the Somerset area, the canyon formed by the North Fork of the Gunnison River is extremely narrow and contains too much topographic relief in the form of slopes to be considered capable of being irrigated. As indicated in Section 2.04.3, the historical premining land use • of the permit and adjacent areas has been as undeveloped lands and some limited residential use. There has never been agricultural activities in these areas. 2.06.9 Auaerina The operator does not plan any augering operations; therefore, the requirements of this Section area not applicable to the permit application. 2.06.10 Coal Processing Plants and Support Facilities not Located Within the Permit Area No coal will be processed within the present permit area; there- fore, the requirements of this Section are not applicable to the permit application. 2.06.11 In Situ Process Activity No In Situ mining is planned by the operator; therefore, the requirements of this Section are not applicable to the permit • application. 2.06-4 Rev. 01-31-96
