dASh;Lii~r: t{YlldULUGY •
Surface Water
L'iruela Canyon has a drainage area of 1,7w5 acres. Tne primary lava
use is grazing. Vegetative cover is primarily woodland with a neroaceous
valley oottom. There are two on-stream impoundments which catch surface
flow for livestocK watering.
WFC monitors two points on Ciruela Canyon, CCS-1 and CCS-2. CCS-1 is
aoove the proposed aevelopment waste pile and the Golden J•;agle mine
discharge. CCS-2 is Located at the confluence with the Purgatoire Hiver
below the proposed pile. Water quality data gatne: _ outing 1yd4, 1yd~ and
tyoti is reported in Tables 1 through 6, Appendix 1. Ciruela Canyo^ is an
ephemeral stream which flows in response to precipitation events. Flor at
CCS-2 results primarily i'rom the Golden ragle Mine discharge.
Groundwater .
In May 1yd4, WFC installed a doxn gradient monitor well in the alluvium
of Ciruela Canyon. Total depth of this tell was So i'eet. The xell vas
completed into shale bedrocK. The location of the well is shorn on r'igure
1.
Water levels, pH, conductivity and temperature nave been recoraeu
monthly in tyd4 and lycsy and quarterly in tydo. Complete suites of analyses
were run during i~ovember 1yd4 and 1ydy. 'Phis data is reported in Taoles 7
through y, Appenu~x 1. In Novemoer 1yd4, Wr'C conducted a pump test (slug
test). The results of the pump test are reported in Appendix 1.
The Ciruela Canyon alluvial well is a sodium bicarbonate water
exhibiting chemical parameters like those of the Golden t';agle trline
discharge. Water quality similarity suggests the source of recharge for
CLAW-1 is from the Golden r'sgle ~~line discharge (see Appendix 1 'Prilinear
Diagrams, Surface and Groundwater Chemistry). .
-L-
