• IV. Impacts Generated by Hawk's Nest
in this concluding chapter, the services of Delta County (Chapter II) are
co®pared and contrasted to the demand generated by Nawk's Nest's projected
workforce expansion. Both the direct and indirect employment levels are
considered. Three general topics are discussed in this section: settlement
patterns of Hawk's Nest employees] service capabilities, coal transportation,
and conclusions.
A. Settlement Patterns of Additional Hawk's Nest Employees
To determine where the new employees would probably settle, the assumption was
made that new employees will settle in a similar fashion as existing Hawk's
Nest miners. Thus, taking the percentage of workers by town from Table I-2,
multiplied by 31 new employees, the following towns will likely be the places
of residence for the new hires:
Table IV-1: Residences of New Hires
Town M of New Hires q of Indirect Total Population*
Paonia 12 9 70
Hotchkiss 7 5 40
Delta 3 33 117
Crawford 3 0 10
Unincorporated Delta County 4 0 13
Gunnison County 2 0 7
TOTAL 31 47 257
Source: JS6A, December, 1980.
