~ APPLICATION FOR MINING PERMIT
GENERAL REFRACTORIES COMPANY
BEULAH MINE
PUEBLO COUNTY, COLORADO Page 3
EXHIBIT E - "c" (CONT'D)
Wildlife - Mining and reclamation will be accomplished in line with the
recommendations set forth by the Division of Wildlife Report, a copy of
which is attached to this application as EXHIBIT H.
Topsoiling -Where topsoil is present on the mine site, it will be stock-
piled and stabilized until needed for reclamation. Upon completion of final
grading, the topsoil will be replaced over the mined out areas where topsoil
was present prior to disturbance.
Re-vegetation - Reclamation of all disturbed land will be for rangeland.
Slopes will be left so that livestock can graze on the reclaimed area.
Re-vegetation will be accomplished fallowing the recommendations set forth
in a report by the Soil Conservation Service. A copy of said report is
included in this application as EXHIBIT I.
d
Reclamation for these affected lands will provide a surface which will permit
the growth of natural vegetation and provide habitat for wildlife in the area.
There will be no water impoundments. The reclaimed slope will be similar to
the present slop permitting the natural runoff of rainfall.
e
Those areas shaded in green will be where topsoil is to be stockpiled and
stabilized until needed for reclamation. Re-vegetation will be according to
the plan prepared by the Soil Conservation Service and made a part of this
application under EXHIBIT I.
f
i, ii, iii - Reclamation Timetable
Main Pit South Face - Reduction of the highwall to a 35° slope will be the
first step for reclamation after completion of mining. This will require
approximately two months. Preparation of the spoil areas, i.e., grading to
insure natural drainage, leveling and backfilling of overburden, replacement
of available topsoil and spreading of fines will require approximately one
month with a dozer. Fertilizing, planting and mulching will require approx-
imately 2 weeks. The foregoing will be done after completion of mining in
1986. Total area included in this permit application for the South Face is
14.6 acres.
Main Pit East Face - The same procedure described above for the South Face
will be followed in the area of the East Face. Time required to accomplish
the reclamation will be the same also. Mining will be completed in this area
by 1986. Total area included in this permit application for the East Face is
6.1 acres.
