•
MINING PLAN
EXHIBIT C
1. General Plan
Prior to any mining operations, the sediment control system will be installed, which consists of a 1.5
ft high berm on the west side of the property, a 1.5 feet deep ditch on the north and south sides of
the property which leads to a sediment sump on the low point of the property on the east. The berm
will prevent undisturbed runoff from entering the site and the sump is designed to contain the runoff
from the 100 year - 24 hour event. These facilities are described in more detail in the subsection ti-
tled drainage facilities. All of the above facilities are shown on Map E-1 Mine Plan.
As shown on Map E-1, the plan of operation is [o initially strip the topsoil from the mining area of
Phase 1, which is approximately 3.0 acres. This material is expected to average 5 inches in thick-
ness, therefore the volume to be moved is 54,432 cubic fee[. The topsoil pile area allocated is 0.16
acres and the average height of the stockpile is 7.8 feet. No slopes will exceed 2.OH:1.OV. The top-
soil pile will be temporarily seeded with the same mix described later in the reclamation plan.
The subsoil will be subsequently stripped from the same 3.0 acre area. The expected thickness is 1.0
feet, therefore, the total volume is 130,680 cubic feet. The stockpile area allocated is 0.25 acres,
therefore, the average height of the of the pile is 12.0 feet. No slopes will exceed 2.OH:1.OV. Both
stockpile areas are placed within the drainage ditch so that all mnoff from these areas must drain to
the sediment pond. A Cat D-8 or D-9 dozer is expected to perform the stripping and stockpiling.
Once these activities are completed, the mining of the gravel deposit will begin. A D-8 or D-9 dozer
and/or Cat type 988 loader will be used to excavate the gravel. It is possible that a track backhoe or
track loader may also be used in the material excavation. The gravel zone is approximately 11 feet
thick, therefore the total material in the 3.0 acre area is 1,437,480 cubic feet or 97,030 tons. The
maximum annual mined tonnage rate for the pit is 30,000 tons, therefore, the Phase 1 area will last
3.2 years, assuming the maximum rate is sold each year. The mining of Phase 1 will leave
2.OH:1.OV sideslopes on all final outside slopes down to the mining depth of 12 feet. These slopes
are relatively mild and will not present a problem in revegetation.
Ferrero Pit 2/00 16
