Exhibit B-Site Description
Soils Information- Morop loam (49), 2 to 18 percent slopes
is the primary soil in the proposed pit. See attached map
unit descriptions for detailed soil information.
Vegetative Information- This area is described as a Loamy
Foothills range site. The grass species which make up the
majority of the plant community are Western wheatgrass,
Green needlegrass, Blue grama, Big bluestem and Sun sedge.
Common forbs include Drummond milkvetch, Upright prairie
coneflower, and Dotted gayfeather.
Climatic Information- Annual precipitation ranges between
12 and 17 inches with the majority falling during the
growing season. Snow averages 50 inches annually. Early
spring snows and high intensity summer thunderstorms
followed by hot, dry periods are common.
The optimum growing season for the major forage species is
spring and early summer. Cool season plants begin growth
approximately April 1 and the warm season plants begin
growth May 1 and after. The length of the growing season
ranges from 120 to 150 days with average frost dates
occurring on May 15 and October 1. Average annual
temperature is 49 degrees Fahrenheit.
Water Resources- There is no evidence of ground water that
will be affected by the pit operations. Berming will be
done around the pit to collect overland flows and a pond
will be constructed on the northeast end of the 7.3-acre
plot to collect any excess drainage.
