Rd. 519
Walsenburg, CO 81089
Dear Mr. Menegatti and Mr. Ferrero,
Mike Ferrero
Walsenburg, CO 81089
The following information is provided at your request in
order to meet the reclamation plan requirements of the
"Colorado Mined Reclamation Act" and subsequent rules and
regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board.
This information is for the reclamation of your proposed
"Ferrero" gravel pit in part of the Southwest quarter of
section 6, T 305, R66 W.
A. Initial Excavation and Topsoiling:
Topsoil will be stockpiled during the mining process and
stored within the permit area where minimal erosion and
disturbances from ongoing mining operations could occur.
Stockpiled topsoil should be revegetated to reduce soil
erosion by wind and water if it is not replaced on a
backfill area within a time short enough to avoid erosion.
B. Revegetation
1) Seedbed Preparation: The seedbed needs to be firm and
free of weeds and other undesirable vegetation. In
areas where there is significant compaction tillage,
such as chiseling and discing, shall be done to loosen
compaction and then harrowed down. If the seedbed is
soft after tillage allow 2-4 weeks for soil to settle
and firm.
2) Planting period: Dormant planting is possible anytime
after October 15~h, or when temperatures are cold enough
to prevent germination. Avoid seeding on frozen soils.
Planting can also be done in the spring until the end
of April and then between July ls` and September lit
3) Planting method: Planting can be done with a grass
drill or modified grain drill with depth bands or
packer wheels. Depth of seed placement shall be
between ~h and '/ inch with row spacing between 7 and 12
inches. In areas where the use of a drill is not
feasible, broadcasting seed is acceptable at double the
seeding rate. Raking will then need to be done to
cover the seed to a depth of 1/: to '/a inch.
