6. Schedule of Operations
Mining operations will normally occur from mid-April through mid-October. Occasionally, a mild
winter will permit some activity in the winter months. The operator will not have night gravel min-
ing operations, although minor [ruck activity may occur after hours. As stated earlier, the maximum
annual tonnage to be mined and sold is 30,000 tons.
7. Huerfano County and Environmental Impacts
Il is anticipated that the 1-1/2 inch gravel product will be sold within 1 15 to 20 mile radius of the
permit area. The main end use is road base for subdivisions, existing road resurfacing and gas well
locations. The roads to be used are County Roads 310, 312, 315, 317, 318, 320 and 330. These
roads are adequate in width and surfacing to safely handle [his truck traffic. Since the annual pro-
duction rates are very low (30,000 tons per year), it is not expected that the truck traffic will produce
a major impact to the area. assuming [hat'/ the annual production will be hauled by 10 ton trucks
and the other'/ will be hauled by 25 ton semis, this results in the following truck traffic:
1) 10 ton [rucks 15,000 tons/yr = 1500 loads/ yr. Assuming 6 month production for 8 hrs/day, [his
results in 1008 working hours, therefore the approximate truck frequency is 1.5 loads per hour.
2) 25 ton trucks 15,000 tons/yr = 600 loads/yr. Assuming 6 month production for 8 hrs/day, this
results in 1008 working hours, therefore the approximate truck frequency is 0.61oads per hour or 1
load every 1.7 hours.
I[ is expected that only 2 employees will be on site during normal working conditions. Porto-potties
will be used for employees, which will be serviced by an operating company. Since the site is re-
mote, the need for safety protection services is minimal to non-existent. No electrical power will be
used on site. Wildlife issues are addressed in Exhibit B of this report. As discussed in that section,
the reclamation recommendations of the SCS should make the site better for wildlife and stock graz-
ing after reclamation than that which currently exists.
Ferrero Pit 2/00 20
