the reserve will be 10.76 years. The actual life may fluctuate somewhat in response to supply and
demand, fluctuations in mining depth, etc
The volume of natural fines to be mined and replaced in the pit is 30% x 2,050,000 cy = 615,000
cy. The total volume of overburden available from the excavated area is 3.5' x 58.2 acres = 328,000
cy. Since 58,000 cy will be permanently stored in the staging azea, the total volume of overburden
and fines available for backfilling is 615,000 + 328,000 - 58,000 = 885,000 cy. This backfilling will
occur on an ongoing basis so that the total amount of material to be moved after the last cut is
mined is substantially less than this total.
To backfill the perimeter of the excavation (8050 ft) from a 1H:1 V slope to a 3H:1 V slope requires
220,000 cy, therefore, 885,000 - 220,000 = 665,000 cy is left over and must be filled at the bottom
of the excavation. Therefore, although the bottom of excavation is expected to be 4433' for a gravel
zone of approximately 25 feet thickness, the backfilling will raise the average level to 4440.8'.
Since the ground water level is expected to be 4448-4449', this would leave a lake of approximately
6.0-7.5 feet depth.
Most of the washed sand and gravel is planned to be used for asphalt. Asphalt production will nor-
mally occur periodically between the months of Mazch and November and all asphalt production
which occurs will be limited to the identified staging azea. Maximum production for portable plants
is about 5000 tons per day. The plant will meet or exceed all State and Federal pollution require-
ments, and is inspected on a regular basis by governmental authorities. Hot bituminous pavement
made on site is not stored in the permit area; it is taken directly to the job site. The operation will
use an existing access road on the FMM property to gain access to Highway 50, Primarily, 24 ton
belly dumps will be used to haul asphalt as well as processed sand and gravel from the site. Materi-
als may be shipped with 14 ton tandem trucks.
The total disturbed area is 73.46 acres, which is the entire permit area. It should be understood that
this entire area has been previously disturbed and unreclaimed from past refinery operations. The
breakdown of this acreage given below is based on a worst case disturbance for the life of the pit:
Gilsonite Pit ] 0/02 8
