Howe*rer, mapping unit
#2 of the Dolores River Basin report fairly accurately describes the
Basin pit. The soil appeared to be a cla-: loam texture. There is cobble
to the surface, Slopes are fairly gentle, about 6p. There appeared
to be 1 to 1~ feet of soil material aajacent, to the pit, as well as a
fairly large stockpile of soil material that could to used for tepsoiling,
The pit on the Troy Rase ranch is located on a Cheyenne sandy loam
soil series, It typically has a sand;;r loan surface about 8 inches
thick, The subsoil is a stratafied graveL'y sandy loan about ell inches
thick, overlying sand and gra~~el, Slopes range from 0 to 3%. There xas
a large stockpile of soil materiz?, and it should be fairly easy to
scatter it once the gravel operations cease,
The Egnar pit is located on the Pulpit portico of the Eowdish-Fulpi':
soil complex. Typical the Pulpit fraction has a loam surface layer
„R~. about !a inches thick, over a clay loam subsoil of 18 inches, This overlies
E.Q ,~- sany'y- loams and hard saadstore. Because this operation more clos~l,-{
F'.~ ' ~' resembles a qu2rry rather '~han a typical '~p]acer" gravel pit,' I "'e-_.
there is little to be done with the side slopes. Whate•rer spoil is.
eft after te=e gravel is removed can be shaped and blended for rese~ng,
The Applebaugh pit above Placerville is located on the Losee gra:~el.ly
sandy loam soil series, Slopes are nearly level, The surface is a
gravely sandy loam about 7 inches thick, over a cobbly sandy loan
subsoil about 7 irc::es thick. In n4' field visit I noticed veer 1itt-e
soil material available for surfacing, It is n4' urderstandin~ thet r.
Applebaugh wanted to have the pond remain after the gravel operation... I
could recommend that tk:e area be gradod and shaped after the gra:•el is
removed, to aid revegetaticn,
~r,.,,~z`'~The Norwood airport pit is located or. the Uracca portion of the Uracca-
~~..' j'+'' ~ ~ Cerro soil temples, The surface of the Uracca part is a gra-.re11y loam
~'- about ZO inches ~`:ick, Zhe subsoil is a 5 inch gz•avelly clay loam,
