IMRODUCTION TO HYDROCALC HVDRAUUCS <br />1.3 GETTING STARTED AUICKLY <br />HYDROCALC HYDRAWCS MANUAL, PAGE 2 <br />To start the HYDROCALC° Hydreullp programs, do the following: <br />1) Start up your computer using the hard disk or a IIoppy desk with the DOS system flies on !t <br />2) Insert the HYDROCALC° Hydraulics Program Disk m Drive A, and close the disk drive door. <br />3) Type A to move to disk drive A <br />4) Type ffi. and press the ~ key to start the HYDROCALC' Hydreullp Menu Program. <br />5) In a few seconds the program will be loaded and you will be able to proceed through this <br />manual and practice the use of each procedure. <br />You should read this chapter of the program manual (CHAP'T'ER 1) completely. You may then turn <br />to the section of the manual containing the detalled description of each program for more infor- <br />mation. For ecample, you should review CHAPTER2 carefully before using the Trapewidal Channel <br />Analysis Program. <br />1.4 MAKING BACKUP COPIES OF THE PROGRAM DISK <br />You should make aback-up copy of the program disk Immediately, and then put the original <br />program dJsk in a safe place. We will provide one replacement copy of your program disk for $5.00 <br />ff the original becomes damaged. However, your awn efforts to protect your original program disk <br />are your best protection. <br />If you want to be able to 'boot" (start up) the computer using a disk with this program on it, you <br />shouldmake a "system dLsk" andthenuse the COPYcommandto copy the files fromthe HYDROCALCm <br />Hydreullp program disk onto lt. BY selecting an item on a menu, you select which program to workwith or tell the program <br />what action to take. There 1s a Master Menu which is used to select each program. There are also <br />two primary menus in each program: The MAIN MENU and the IHEI.P MENU. Some of the programs <br />also include other menus for special purposes. <br />When a menu appears, one of the items is always highlighted. The up and down arrow keys on <br />the Numeric Keypad (on the right-hand side of your computer keyboard) cause different menu <br />Items to be highlighted. Pressing the O key will cause the highlighted item to be chosen. You can <br />also press the number next to the desired item to select that item immediately. Pressing the e,~ <br />key will allow you to leave the menu immediately. <br />1.5.1 THE HYDROCALC HYDRAULICS MASTER MENU PROGRAM <br />You start the HYDROCALC° Hydreullp Master Menu Program by typing ffi, and pressing the O key. <br />Figure 1-1 illustrates the appearance of the Master Menu. <br />0 1989 Dodson & Associates.
