y IMRODUCTION TO HVDROCALC HYDRAULICS HYDROCALC HYDRAUDCS MANUAL. PAGE 1
CHAPTER 1
~_ •
+ INTRODUCTION TO HYDROCALC HYDRAULICS
1 HYDROCALC° Hydraulics is a library of four computer programs which assist civil eng[neers in solving
common problems in hydraulics. Since some of the programs in the series contain several com-
putational routines, HYDROCALC° Hydraulics contains a total often "tools" for different situations.
HYDROCALC° Hydraulics offers all the following Important features:
1) All computational routines are very easy to use. Data can be easily entered and modified, so
that several "trial runs" can be quickly completed.
2) Instant "on-line" help is available.
~ 3} Complete reports can be printed for each computation. The printed reports are suitable for
pro]ect ffies or for submittal to regulatory agendes.
4) Graphs lllustrating the results of many of the computational routines can be displayed on a
compatible computer screen or graphics printer.
The programs can be used on any IBM PC~ompatible computer with at least 256K of memory, a
360K disk drive, and PC DOS or MS DOS 2.11A or later. For screen graphip, an IBM Color
Graphics Adapter or Hercules Monochrome Graphics Adapter or compatible device 1s required.
For prtntergraphics, anEpson-compatible printers required. The HYDROCALC' Hydraulics programs
can be used on a computer system without screen graphics capabilities.
1.1 DESCRIPTION OF HYDROCALC HYDRAULICS PROGRAMS
The programs !n the HYDROCALC' Hydraulics series include the following:
) The 'lYapezotdal Channel Analysts Program and the Circular Channel Analysis Program:
these programs can compute the Normal Depth, Critical Depth, a Rating Curve, and a Standard
i - Step Water Surface Proflle for any Trapezoidal or Circular Channel.
• The Pipe Culvert Analysts Program and the Boz Calvert Analysis Program: these programs
can compute a Culvert Performance Curve using current Federal Highway A +*++~tion
methods and equations.
This program manual describes the operation of all of the programs in the series. If you have only
purchased one or two of the individual programs from the series, then this manual may describe
programs which are not on your program d1sk.
1.2 FILES ON THE PROGRAM DISK
i; Your program disk will contain at least some of the following files:
HI..ERE: The master menu program for HYDROCALCm Hydraulics. Th1s program 1s used to run all of
the other programs.
TRAP.COM !s the Ale containing the Trapezoidal Charmel Analysis Program and all of its on-line
help screens.
CIItC.COM is the Ale contaLning the Circular Channel Analysis Program. and all of Its on-line help
screens.
PIPE.COM is the file containing the Plpe Culvert Analysis Program and all of its on-line help
screens.
' BO%.COM is the file containing the Box Culvert Analysis Program and all of its on-line help
~:::
screens.
i.
0 1989 Dotlson & h4oclates, Inc.. 5629 FM 1960 West.
