Section 780.211b) Continued.
•
The monitoring program is designed to determine the extent of any impacts to the
hydrologic resources in the Mine and Loadout areas. It is divided into two principle
components: ground water monitoring and surface water monitoring.
Ground water is monitored using the series of wells listed in Table 62, Kerr Mine Area
Monitor Well Inventory, and shown on Map 23-2, Water Monitoring Sites contained in
Exhibit 42, Drainage and Sediment Control Plan; Map 15a, Kerr Mine Area Ground
Water Hydrology; and Map 17a, Kerr Tipple Area Hydrology. Typical monitoring well
construction is shown in Figure 20, Kerr Monitor Well Design. Ground water
monitoring wells are divided into five separate categories: Bedrock water level wells;
bedrock water level/sample wells; alluvial water level wells; alluvial water level/sample
wells; and spoil water level/sample wells.
Water levels are measured in the bedrock water level wells once in the spring and once
in the fall of each year. Bedrock water level/sample wells are sampled at these times
and samples are analyzed for the constituents shown on Table 61, Kerr Mine Area
• Hydrologic Monitoring Schedule. Alluvial water levels are measured in the alluvial
water level wells both in the Kerr Mine and loadout areas on a monthly basis during
March through October. All alluvial water level/sample wells are sampled on a
quarterly basis except during the winter quarter, and samples are analyzed for the
parameters shown on Table 61, Kerr Mine Area Hydrologic Monitoring Schedule. Spoil
water levels are measured in the spoil water level/sample wells on a quarterly basis
and quarterly spoil water quality samples are obtained and analyzed for the parameters
shown on Table 61, Kerr Mine Area Hydrologic Monitoring Schedule.
Since mining has ceased and pits have been backfilled, and the majority of the mine
disturbance area regraded and revegetated, Kerr proposes to revise the current waxer
monitoring plan to reflect postmining conditions. The revised monitoring program
includes:
TR-19 780-108 Revised August 1999
