Watcher <br />E.ecwive Direclor <br />Michael B Long <br />Division Direclor <br />On April 5, 1999, DMG issued its recommendation for approval of the Delta Paving Gravel Pit <br />application, over objections. This document is intended to explain the process by which DMG arrived <br />at its approval recommendation over objections. <br />Application far the Delta Paving Gravel Pit was filed with DMG on January 4, 1999. The application <br />proposes a surface sand and gravel extraction and material processing operation, located along the <br />south bank floodplain of the Gunnison River, approximately 4 miles east of Delta, Colorado. The <br />application indicates that the proposed 81.5 acres affected area will result in 4-5 ponds and a <br />permanent processing plant for asphalt and concrete products. Affected areas will be reclaimed to <br />support wildlife habitat, recreation and industrial post mining land uses. <br />Objections and Comments Received <br />DMG received the following agency comments and citizen letters of objection to the application: <br />Letter of objection from Randall Shepard, dated 2/15/99, received 2/17/99; <br />Letter of objection from Faye C. Simpson, dated 2/23/99, received 2/23/99; <br />Letter of objection from Jerald M. Young, dated 2/23/99, received 2!23/99; <br />Agency comments from Delta County Planner, dated 2/22/99, received 2/23/99; <br />Agency comments from U.S, Army Corps of Engineers (COE), dated 1/27/99, received 2/1/99 <br />and 3/3199; <br />Agency comments from Division of Water Resources, dated 2/9/99, received 2/9/99; <br />Agency comments from Division of Wildlife (DOW), submitted with the application; <br />Informal Conference occurred on March 12, 1999, in Delta, Colorado. DMG received the following <br />additional written comments/objections within the 5 day comment period following the Informal <br />Conference. <br /> <br />
