<br />S~G~I®N II. ®~FINI~I®NS <br />2.01 Absorption System -waste water disposal field or leaching field and adjacent soils or other <br />system for the treatment of sewage in an individual sewage disposal system by means of <br />absorption into the ground and may include evapotranspiration. <br />2.02 Absorption Trench -one or more trenches not over three (3) feet in width in which sewage <br />ef}luent is percolated into the soil. <br />2.03 Aerobic Sewage Treatment System - an individual sewage disposal system employing <br />biological action which is maintained by the addition of air or oxygea <br /> 2.04 Analytical Pazameter - <br />~ A. Temperature (Tl: the measure of the thermal state of a substance with respect to it's <br />P <br />abdity to communicate heat to it's em~ironment, reported as degrees Centigrade (C ). <br />v <br />A B_ Suspended Solids (SS): solids in the sewage that can be removed readily by standard <br /> filtering procedures in a laboratory, reported as milligrams per liter (mg/1). Also <br /> termed suspended matter. <br />~ ~ C. Volatile Suspended Solids IVSS): the quantity of solids in sewage which aze lost on <br />~ ignition of the dry suspended solids at 600` C, reported as mlligrams per liter (mg/l). <br />I' <br />D. <br />Settleable Solids: solids in the sewage which will settle, as distinct from remaining <br />~ in suspension, reported as milliliters per liter of sample after forty five (45) minutes <br />~' of settling time (mU45 min). <br /> <br /> E, ~ the logarithm of the reciprocal of the hydrogen-ion concentration. <br />L' F. Dissolved Oxygen~D01: the oxygen dissolved in sewage, reported as milligrams per <br />~ liter (mg/l). <br />I~ <br />Ci. Five-Da~Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BODs): the quantity of oxygen used in the <br />biochemical oxidation of organic matter in five days at 20 C under specified <br />I ~ conditions, reported as milligrams per liter (mg/1). <br />H.
