Absorption Trench and Seepa~Bed:
An absorption trench or seepage bed shall be of sufficient width and length or
dimension to provide the required absorption area. The bottom of the trench or bed
and distribution lines shall be level. Perforated distribution pipe which shall be
required for an absorption trench or seepage bed shall be placed the entire length of
the trench or bed and shall be surrounded by clean graded gravel, mck or material of
equal efficiency which may range in size from'/z inch to 2 '/z inches and shall be placed
from at least two (2) inches above the top of the distribution pipe to at least six (6)
inches below the bottom of the distribution pipe. Mounding gravel over the
distributions pipes is not permitted. The sepazating distance between soil absorption
systems shall be a minimum of six (ti) feet sidewait-to-sidewall. The separating
distance between parallel distribution lines in a seepage bed shall not exceed six {6)
feet and a distnbution line can extend to within 1 '/z feet but not further than three (3)
feet of each sidewall of the seepage bed. Pipe for gavity distribution shall be no less
than three (3) inches in diameter and preferably less than one hundred (100) feet in
length. All distribution lines shall be looped across the end of the absorption bed.
Solid pipe must be installed across each end of the field. A minimum of two (2)
inspection ports placed diagonally in the field shall be installed. Inspection port pipes
shall be at least three (3) inches in diameter and extend at least twelve (12) inches
above the final grade and must be capped at the exposed end. Inspection Ports shall
connect to a tee with perforated extensions at the bottom. The perforated extensions
shall be not less than ti 'and must be placed at the bottom of the gravel layer. The top
of the placed gravel or such material used shall be covered with a layer of hay, straw
or similar pervious material. An impervious covering shall not be used. Trle or open
joim pipe shall not be used.
A final cover of soil suitable for vegetation at least twelve (12) inches deep shall be
placed from the top of the hay, straw, or similaz pervious material to the finished
surface grade of an absorption trench or seepage bed. The final cover shall be graded
to deflect runoff water away from the disposal azea.
41
