Attachment 12
page 6
• BUFFALO STONE LLP
IMPACT ANALYSIS -EXHIBIT 2 -CONTINUED
JiJLY 17, 2007
Impact analysis.
In the following analysis we will address the pros and cons of approving this
proposed Quarry. The bottom line is that approximately 6, 000 tons of limestone will be
used each yeaz from this area. It is important to remember that it will take the same
number of truck trips to haul this amount of material no matter where is mined, only the
time it takes and the number of trucks needed would change. The longer the haul the
more trucks will be needed or the more time will be needed to supply the stone using the
same number of trucks.
Haul Route impacts:
The limestone from this mine would be hauled down County Road 223, a distance of
8 miles to HWY 160, then on to different locations. Due to the low volume of traffic on
the county road there will not be much impact on the county roads.
Dust:
There will be a minimal amount of dust associated with this mine. The only time
there will be dust is while getting the dirt off the limestone. In mining operations and all
activities that create dust, the idea is to control it since total elimination is not possible.
The Colorado Department of Health requires an Air Pollution Emissions Notice permit
• (APEN) for all processing equipment that produces more than 70,000 tons/yeaz.
An APEN may also be required for a quarry if more than 70,000 tons of rock per
yeaz is produced. We aze estimating that no more than 6,000 tons will be produced, so no
permit is required. We will use best management practices (BMPs) at all times to control
dust emission from the mine. These BMP's included using gravel roadways, watering
stockpile area, revegetating topsoil piles that will not be disturbed regulazly and seeding
reclaimed azeas during the next planting season or as soon as practical after the seedbed
is prepazed.
We have the responsibility to control dust on our access and internal mine roads.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Water - Since we aze not developing the site, only removing limestone, we do not
need water at the site for the normal uses. Drinking water for employees and visitors will
be supplied in the form of bottled water or will be brought to the site by our employees.
We do not need water for permanent buildings or sanitary facilities (self-contained) so
the need for a well permit or water server agreement is unnecessary.
Sewer - Sanitary facilities will be provided in the form ofself-contained portable
units. There are no permanent structures on the site so it impractical to construct
