• SITE DESCRIPTION EXHIBIT B
SOILS INFORMATION
The following information was obtained from site observations and the basic soils and
vegetation information found through the USDA's office in Trinidad. The following soils
infomratiort is made pact of dris application. Soil units are shown on the USDA map, reproduced in
Attachment 3. The photo map shows the surrounding vegetation features and soil types. This site
lies along edge of Freezeout Creek and up onto the rangeland.
The soil types on the quarry site aze Penrose loam over most of the site and a small area
on the Southeast corner is Mingwet-Wiley silt loam. The surface layer is a loam from 0
to 4 inches deep. The subsurface layer from 4 to 8 inches deep is silty clay loam.
Unweathered bedrock is at a depth from 8 to 60 inches,
This deposit is a limestone deposit underlying the Petunse and Wiley loam, l to 4% slopes soil
series. The general soils, description that follows indicates that this soil is fairly shallow. However,
on this site we found that the usable topsoil varies, from 4 to 14 inches. Underlying this topsoil
are layers of limestone of varying widths for the stone material we plan to produce. The
description is consistent with that described in the USDA text. The limestone on the site appears to
be 15 + feet deep since it is visible from the slopes of the creek walls. The land owner reports .that
these visible layers extend into the rangeland.

Indicated rate if drilled. The mixtures will be "doubled if broadcast.
VEGETATION INFORMATION
1. Current cover percent is: 75 to 95%
2. Topsoil depth on site averages: 4 to 14 inches
3. It is a
combination of native grasses and forbs that has proven successful on other sites in the
vicinity of this query. The seed will be drilled where possible and doubled if broadcast The site
is currently part of a pasture located in the limestone breaks found in eastern Las Animas
County. It is a prairie land with no special or unigtre characteristics with mostly grass and forbs
covering the area. Average annual production is approximately 1350 pounds per acre. Short
grasses make up approximately 80% of the vegetative cover and the plant community is 85 to 90
percent grasses and 10 to 15 percent forbs, trees and' brush,
