Drills: Proper seeding equipment should be used on critical areas. If
native grasses are recommended, a grass drill should also be recommended.
The drill should be equipped with a satisfactory feeding mechanism, agita-
tor, double disk furrow openers and packer wheels. Depending upon the
seeding recommendation, it may be necessary to have separate boxes for
fluffy grasses, small seeded grasses and for legumes.
2.) Hydraulic Equipment: This is an acceptable method but should ordinarily
be restricted to areas inaccessible to drills. If hydromulch ie to be
applied, the seed should be applied in a separate operation prior to mulch-
ing. The exception to this will be irrigated areas.
3.) Hand Application: Broadcast seeding by hand or a manually operated seeder
is acceptable on small area and areas not accessible to drills. Seed will
be covered 1~4" to 1~2" deep by raking or harrowing.
Seed in May or June.
Required * qo of species Acres Total
Rates/Acre in mixture *
Sand bluestem 1 .0 20 1 3.20
Little bluestem 7.0 20 1 1.40
Sand reedgrass 6.5 30 1 13.0
Blue grams 2.0 10 1 0.20
Side-oats grams 9.0 20 1 1.80
* All rates given on Pure Live Seed (PLS) basis.
PLS lbs. _ (Germination ~) (Purity 96) (Bulk lbs.)
Bulk lbs. _ PLS lbs.
Germination 96 Purity y6
