I EXHIBIT B: SITE DESCRIPTION
Item 1 - Soils 6 vegetation:
Soils and vegetation information was developed from established soil
survey and range site descriptions of the area as published by the U.S.
' Soil Conservation Service. Field investigations followed to verify the
nature and extent of departure from the published descriptions.
As indicated under Exhibit A, this area has been disturbed by previous
excavation activities. The latest soil survey of this area was
published in 1971 utilizing field data gathered from 1958 to 1963. The
included aerial in the survey (sheet 59 - Soil Survey of Arapahoe
County, Colorado) was flown in 1963 and outlines an area of excavation
in the site in question, The balance of the permit area not previously
' affected is indicated on the mapping unit as BvE, Bresser-Truckton sandy
loams, 5 to 20 percent slopes.
The Bresser soil in on side slopes. It has the profile descriobed as
typical for the series. The Bresser Series soil profile description is
located on the following page. The solum has an A profile to five
inches in depth, with the B profile to the B2t horizon occurring to a
' depth of 9 to 16 inches in depth.
The Truckton soil occurs in the higher areas. Its surface layer is
about five inches thick. The subsoil is about 12 inches thick, is sandy
loam, and contains more clay than the surface layer. The Truckton
Series soil profile description is located on the following page. The
solum has an A profile to six inches in depth, with the B profile to the
B2t horizon occurring to a depth of 10 to 20 inches.
The Bresser-Truckton Complex is under the Sandy Foothill Range Site
Description which is reproduced on the following page. The Foothill
Range Site Description indicates that optlmum ground cover under climax
conditions is 25.
Field investigations indicat that the vegetation does not fit the
designated description. The Sandy Plains Range Site Description is a
closer fit. This description is indicated on other soil types in the
immediate vicinity, and many of the species indicated were observed on
the undisturbed portions of the property. This description is also
reproduced and included in the following pages. Page 4 of the Sandy
Plains description indicates that the Bresser and Truckton complex is
associated. Of special interest is the statement under 3c, page 3,
which indicates that the site vegetation is in decline, since field
observations match stated trends. Cover under ideal conditions is
indicated to be 15 to 20 percent. Actual cover observed varied from
less than five percent on disturbed areas to 35$ where blue grams
occurred in dense turf like stands, Average cover where blue grams
persists approximates 20$.
Actual species observed at the site includ:
mustard grass
needle 6 thread grass
yucca
sand dropseed
crested wheatgrase
sun sedge
blue grams
r
