2-32
LIGHT USE ROADS
Light use roads are used within the mine facilities area and are shown on Figure
2.2-2. Light use road #1 provides access to the construction material stockpile. Light
use road #2 is used for sediment pond maintenance and for access to the sediment
drying area. Light use road #1 is approximately 110 feet long with an average grade of
0% and a maximum pitch grade of 10%. Light use road #2 is approximately 250 feet
long with an average grade of 0% and a maximum pitch grade of 12%.
Light use road #3 provides access to a power meter. Light use road # 3 is
approximately 60-feet long with and average grade of 0%. A 12"diameter culvert will
be placed under light use road #3. It is sized the same as the cross road culvert
located east of light use road #3. There is very little drainage area associated with this
culvert.
Light use roads will be reclaimed.
During November and December 2005, a light use road will be constructed along
• the north branch of Munger Creek to provide access to a drill hole or holes. The light
use road will be located on ridges or on the most stable available slopes to minimize
erosion.
I •
Stream fords of the ephemeral channel are proposed. Munger Creek's upslream
watershed is greater than one square mile. The light use road will be used during the
winter months of 2005 and 2006. Reclamation of the light use road including removal
of the steam fords should be complete by the end of the first quarter of 2006. Because
of the season of use, there should not be any significant flow in the ephemeral channel
during the period the light use road is in use or before the light use road is reclaimed.
The fords should not adversely affect stream sedimentation, fish, wildlife or related
environmental values during the short term they will be in use. Removal of the steam
fords will assure the water quantity and quality will not be adversely affected.
Rule 4.05.18, Steam Buffer Zones,' mandates that mine related disturbance must
be 100 feet from an ephemeral stream with a drainage area greater than one square
mile unless the Division specifically authorizes surface or underground mining
operations closer. The season of use and reclamation during the first quarter of 2006
will assure that the surface coal mining operations will not cause or contribute to the
M`Clane Volume 1 11/05
