Winevada Series, XB (D,E,F)
The Winevada series consists of moderately deep, well-drained soils
that formed in material weathered from sandstone. Winevada soils are
on mountain sideslopes and benches and have slopes of 3 to 65 percent.
The mean annual precipitation ranges from 20 to 25 inches, the average
annual air temperature is 37 to 40 degrees F., and the frost-free
season is 40 to 65 days. Elevations are 6900 to 8400 feet.
Winevada soils are similar to Coutis and Mundos soils. They are mapped
near the Coutis and Skylick soils. Coutis, Mundos and Skylick soils
are deep.
Typical pedon of Winevada fine sandy loam, 25 to 65 percent slopes, is
3 miles east and 7 miles south of the Town of Hayden, center of section
13, T. 5 N., R. 88 W.
All - 0 to 4 inches; very dark gray (lOYR 3/1) fine sandy loam, black
(lOYR 2/1) moist; weak fine granular structure; soft, very friable,
non-sticky, non-plastic; neutral; clear smooth boundary. •
A12 - 4 to 21 inches; dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) sandy clay loam,
very dark brown (lOYR 2/2) moist; weak medium subangular block parting
to weak fine subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable,
slightly sticky, slightly plastic; neutral; gradual wavy boundary.
A13 - 21 to 28 inches; dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) sandy clay loam,
very dark brown (lOYR 2/2) moist; weak medium subangular block
parting to weak fine subangular blocky structure; soft, friable,
slightly sticky, slightly plastic; neutral; abrupt wavy boundary.
R - 28 inches; fractured hard sandstone.
Depth to bedrock ranges from 20 to 40 inches. Rock fragments range
from 0 to 20 percent by volume and occur most commonly in the lower
A horizons and are commonly from 2 to 4 inches in diameter.
A horizon has a value of 3 to 4 dry, 2 to 3 moist, and chroma of •
1 through 3.
-82-
