• Hibbets et al. 1979), namely that site density is extremely low. This
suggests that the area was severely limited in terms of suitability for
prehistoric and historic inhabitants, beyond minor seasonal hunting
forays and/or grazing of domesticates.
Since no resources were encountered, none are considered eligible
for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
DISCU55ION OF PROJECT IMPACTS
Since no resources were discovered, it is felt that the possible
subsidence of the area will have no impact upon significant cultural
resources. Even though it is felt that isolated finds may exist in the
• area, these are expected to be rare, and to reflect only seasonal, minor
hunting loci. In general, this type of site is not considered parti-
cularly significant, taken on a site-by-site basis, nor does it meet
NRHP eligibility requirements when considered individually.
RECOMMENDATIONS
No prehistoric or historic cultural resources were encountered
within the survey area. On the basis of these results, no adverse
effects are expected, and clearance is recommended for the area of
proposed subsidence in Lease C-27432.
•
15
