• INVENTORY OF RESOURCES
No cultural resources were located within the boundaries of Lease
C-27432. This result was expected, given previous investigations, and
the reasons for this have been detailed in previous sections and may
- include any or all of the following: rugged and steep terrain, lack of
available water and high elevation. The last of these would only serve
to limit, not preclude the occurrence of sites in the area. Nearby
areas along Stevens Gulch do, however, contain sites, although they are
quite small and at an extremely low density (Baker 1977; Hibbets et al.
1979). It is at least possible, therefore, that at least a few small
archaeological sites or isolated artifacts may in fact exist in the
• lease area, and that they may have been obscured by poor ground visi-
bility. These are probably limited activity loci, representing prehis-
toric hunting forays. It is doubtful that the area was ever the loca-
tion for more substantial, habitation sites. Any large, substantial
L- sites would have been discovered, even given low ground visibility.
Lack of resources (including water), rugged terrain, and altitude all
probably would mitigate against such an occurrence.
~ EVALUATION OF RESOURCES
L_
Although no sites were discovered, this lack of data can be
evaluated much the same as discovered sites. The lack of sites does
• confirm the results of the previous studies in the vicinity (Baker 1977;
14
