The flow rate will be measured by direct measurement where sufficient flow rates exist
and by visual estimation where direct measurement is not practical due to low flow or an obstructed
source. A feature having a flow rate of less than 1 gpm will be designated a seep. A feature with
a flow rate of greater than or equal to 1 gpm will be designated a spring.
The springs and seeps will be monitored on a twice per yeaz basis, in the spring and fall of
each yeaz, corresponding to high flow and low flow conditions, during the baseline monitoring
period and during commercial operations. During the baseline monitoring period, the flow rate will
be measured, and features having sufficient flow and access will be sampled for the water quality
parameters listed in WQ2 (Table 3). The water quality samples will be collected according to
procedures detailed in Appendix C. After the baseline period, only field parameters (pH,
temperature, conductivity) will be collected. The occurrence of springs and seeps that were not
documented in the baseline surveys will be documented during subsequent surveys.
4.4 Rainfall Monitorieg
A rain gauge will be located at the Yankee Gulch Lease site. The rain gauge will be located
clear of overhead obstruction. It will be monitored daily and the amount of precipitation recorded
monthly along with date, time, and other pertinent information.
' S.0 PROCESS MONITORING
The solution mine process plant, solution mining wells, and associated plumbing will be
1

1
1
1
1
monitored according to the schedule and criteria presented in this section. All process monitoring
data will be included in monitoring reports that will be submitted monthly to the BLM. Details of
the process monitoring schedule and criteria aze presented in Table 4.
5.1 Solution Wells
Solution mining wells will be monitored for pressure, temperature, mass flow rate, fluid flow
rate, and density of inflow and outflow at 10-minute intervals. The data will be recorded at 10-
minute intervals and reported to a central control system.
Monitoring systems will be in place at the solution well trunk line (upstream of the steam
stripper) prior to raising average cavity temperatures above 300°F to provide baseline data for carbon
Agapito Associates, Inc.
