• Mr. Gregg Squire -7- January 7, 1985
individuals, and evidence of plants of various age classes will be presented
as appropriate in the species diversity evaluation.
The scheduling for revegetation success studies is as follows. During
the 8th year following the last year of revegetation work, controlled grazing
of the reclaimed area and the reference areas will be done at a level of
intensity which is agreed upon between the adjacent landowner (lessee) and
Perma Resources and which is approved by the Mined Land Reclamation
Division. Success measurements will be conducted during the 9th year
following the last year of revegetation work, after which grazing will be done
using the same approval procedures as the previous year. Final success
testing will be conducted the 10th year. If reclamation is successful, bonds
will be released. If reclamation proves unsuccessful, additional success
testing or revegetation efforts will be performed as prescribed by the
Division and agreed upon by Perma Resources.
Literature Cited
Larson, L.L. 1980. While the
Colorado Coal Mine No. 1 is not being reclaimed to wildlife habitat per se,
woody species did exist prior to mining. Therefore, shrub seed will be
included as part of the seed mix. The previously proposed supplemental
planting of shrubs are withdrawn. Grazing animals will be able to utilize
seeded shrub species and the Division of Wildlife standard of 1000 stems over
1/3 of the acres (an overall average of 333/acre) should be able to be met.
