Dear Mr. Joy:
I would like to thank you for inviting my comments on the wildlife and wildlife habitat found on the site of
the proposed Baxter pass gravel pit
I have toured the area, located just west of Rio Blanco munry road 25 and the mouth of whisky creek This
site has a Northeast facing aspect and is dominated by aPinion-Juniper forest, a Sagebrush understory, and
variotu native grasses. The wildlife species that frequently occupy this site and the surrounding azea are
e114 Mule deer, Coyote, Hobcat, and Cotton tailed rabbit Many non-game mammal, bird, and reptile
species can also be found here.
Because of the sites proximity to the county road, and the anticipated amount of winter disturbance, I do
not anticipate any long-term detriment to those wildlife species mentioned I believe most of these species
will recolinize the site immediately following reclamation.
Reclamation efforts should be directed at Ute establishment of shrubs such as Sage bntsh and winterfat, and
a grass seed mixture that is composed of Dative species now present at the site.
