III IIIIIIIIIIIII III Doc Date:12/11/2001
• 5/~
(~ 2.05.3(5) Topsoil Removal and Storaps~/
Prior to rcmoval of topsoil, vegetation cover will be
cleared for the designated area to be affected by mining end
processing. The vegetation cover cleared will be the minimum
necessary to allow the removal of topsoil.
Vegetation that will not interfere with the coal processing
facilities will not be removed.
To the extent that topsoil exists, that topsoil will be
removed and stored in conformance with 4.06.2 and 4.06.3.
Anticipated depth of topsoil that can be removed has been
calculated from four test sites shown on Map No. 4 and described
in detail in Rule 2.04.9. From these sites particular emphasis
• is placed on the 'A S B• soil horizons, both of which may be
used for replacement topsoil with the first priority being the
'A' horizon. The 'A' horizon, averaged from the four sites,
was 6 1/4 inches thick, and the probably usable 'B' horizon as
measured from three test sites is et a maximum of 15 inches
thick. A combination of thess two soil types could easily
fullfil the suggested 15 inches of loose topsoil to be replaced
over the overburden replaced after stripping to yield an
eventual one foot of cover to facilitate re-vegetation, The
permit applicant will remove and stockpile all available type
"A" topsoil, and in the event it averages more than 6 1/4 inches
in thickness lesser amounts of 'B' topsoil will be required to
. be stockpiled.
1
Rev. 04/05/90
