2.2 Nonproduction Area A7.pha Surveys
Nonproduction areas (i.e., change room, lunch
room, offices, etc.) will be surveyed for ex-
cessive contamination levels at least once per
calendar month. These surveys will be conducted
in accordance with standard operating procedures
(see example in Appendix - A). Corrective
actions will be based on the guidelines given
in Table - 2.
2.3 Equipment Releases
Any equipment, tools, containers, etc., which
have potential for being contaiminated will be
surveyed for alpha contamination prior to being
released from the restricted area. The survey
results will be compared to the following limits:
Contamination Type
Removable
Fixed-average
Fixed-maximum single
reading
Limit
1,000 dpm/100 cm2
5,000 dpm/100 cm2
15,000 dpm/100 cm2
Reasonable effort will always be made to remove
excess contamination. Equipment which cannot
be decontaminated, or for which decontamination
costs would exceed the reclamation value, will
either be consigned to a licensed radioactive
waste disposal company, or will be disposed of
with the leached rock, underground.
27
