X. Contamination Contro] - Area and Equipment
1. Policy
Controlling egress of radioactive materials from
their normal containment is considered an important
adjunct to personnel and environmental protection.
Therefore, all reasonable effort will be made to
limit radioactive materials contamination to the
lowest extent practicable.
2. Program
Radioactive materials will normally be contained in
vats, tanks and other ,such process equipment within
the restricted area. These "production areas" will
be kept as clean and free of transient radioactive
materials as may be practicable in the routine of
facility operation. This will normally consist of
good housekeeping practices such as "hosing-down"
floor and pad areas, keeping work and equipment
surfaces as free of fugitive dusts as possible, etc.
Three types of surveillance and monitoring programs
will be implemented to assure continuing effective-
ness of contamination control efforts:
2.1 Production Area Surveillance
The Radiation Protection Department will conduct
visual inspections of all production areas no
less frequently than twice monthly. Noted build
ups of process materials will be reported to
the Leaching Foreman for remedial action.
26
