VI. Air Sampling
1. Policy
Personnel exposures to concentrations of airborne
radioactive materials will be limited to levels as
far below regulatory limits as may be reasonably
achievable. A thorough working knowledge of these
concentrations is necessary to execute control of
personnel exposures. An air sampling program will
therefore be implemented to determine the extent and
magnitude of these concentrations.
2. Program
Sampling to determine the airborne concentrations of
natural uranium and radon progeny to which employees
may be exposed will be performed in the following
manner:
2.1 Routine Sampling - Natural Uranium
Periodically, each individual that has routine
process work assignments within the confines of
the restricted area will be issued and instructed
to wear a lapel air sampler (see technical speci-
fications in Table - 3). The sampler will be
worn for not less than 4 hours and not more than
a standard work shift. The lapel air sampling
frequency will be in accordance with Table -1.
Lapel air sampling methodology and computational
techniques will be directed by standard opera-
ting procedures (see example in Appendix - A).
15
