ERHIBIT H - Wildlife Information
The typical wildlife resources in northern Moffat County
include: elk, mule deer, antelope, mountain lion, and sage
grouse. Other common year around mamals are: striped skunk,
badger, weasel ermine, raccoon, grey fox, porcupine, deer mouse,
richardson ground squirrels, whitetailed jackrabbit, cottontailed
rabbit, and marmot.
Migrant birds include: Canadian geese, national varities of
ducks, red tailed hawk, marsh hawk, mourning dove, western blue
bird and starling. Year around birds include: the great horned
owl, blackbilled magpie, and house sparrow.
Common year around reptiles include wondering garter snake,
bull snake, and rattle snake.
There are no endangered species or threatened species known
to inhabit, or to be dependent upon, the affected area of the
Raftopoulos Pit #1 project site.
Most of Moffat County is considered to be critical year
around range for elk, deer and antelope. The Raftopoulos Pit #1
is on private land and these big game animals can be found on the
property in any season. The temporary loss of portions of the
Affected Area of the mine will have no significant impact on
those herds.
The Raftopoulos Pit #1 will not interfere with migratory
routes, or the welfare of, any endangered or threatened species.
This site is not a strutting ground for sage chickens. The
reclaimed land will enhance the post-mining welfare of the over-
all wildlife habitat.
The attached Wildlife Questionnaire, and selected Exhibits,
were sent to D.O.W on December, 4, 1997, addressed to:
Regional Wildlife Manager
711 Independent Ave.
Grand Junction, CO 81505
(See Exhibit H-1 attached)
EXHIBIT H s~
