1
lake will drain to the existing gravel pit lake, central lake
to the northeast lake, the overflow of which will drain from
the northeast into Boulder Creek above Rural Ditch. Banks of
the lakes and other slopes will be graded to conform with Rule
6 of the Mined Land Regulations. No slope will be greater than
4 : 1. Grading and reclamation will proceed in conjunction with
mining as described above in the Mining Report, Method. About
80 acres of disturbed land will be backfilled with overburden
to create land surface , topsoiled to a depth of 6 to 8 inches
and seeded.
Water Quality
The Nelson Pit property abuts Boulder Creek. The creek will
be affected only to the extent that groundwater from the de-
watering trench will be pumped into it. A gravel filter will
surround the pump to filter the groundwater before it is
discharged to the stream. All monitoring of similar pumping
of groundwater at the Flatiron White Rocks project indicates
that there will be no adverse effect on the creek water from
this procedure. An NPDES permit has been issued to cover this
pumping. All federal and state requirements will be met.
Wildlife
Monitoring at the White Rocks mine site indicates that mining
may have little effect on wildlife other than temporary loss
of portions of habitat. Phased mining means that only rela-
tively small amounts of habitat will be affected at one time.
E-2
