No federally listed Sensitive Species would be affected by activities associated with
the proposed exploration program.
There aze numerous mammals, birds and amphibians listed as Sensitive Species by the
Forest Service. However, habitat is lacking for all but a few of these species. Those that
aze known to occur, or for which suitable habitat exists in varying amounts within the
azea studied for the project include: American marten, northern goshawk, olive-sided
flycatcher, purple martin and logger-head shrike. None of these species were observed
during the survey.
No federally listed Management Indicator Species would be affected by activities
associated with the proposed exploration program.
There aze 8 Management Indicator Species (MIS) listed by the USFS for the GMUG,
which were addressed. Habitat is lacking for 4 species including: Abert's squirrel,
Brewer's sparrow, pine marten and common trout. Of the remaining 4 species elk aze
common throughout the area. Northern goshawks and Merriam's turkey are known to
occur in the general area. The red-naped sapsucker is commonly observed in aspen stands
throughout the forest. The limited amount of habitat to be disturbed should have no effect
on use of this area by any of these species.
No Federally listed Threatened, Endangered or Sensitive Plant Species would be
affected by the proposed exploration program.
There aze no Endangered or Threatened plant species known to occur in the project azea.
The Uinta Basin hookless cactus (Sclerocactus glaucus), which is listed as Threatened, is
known to occur in the North Fork Valley only at elevations 2000 or more feet below the
project azea.
The Adobe or Rocky Mountain thistle (Cirsium perplexans) is listed by both the Forest
Service and BLM as Sensitive. A review of habitat requirements for this species shows
that it occurs in adobe hills which aze well below the elevation of activities associated
with this project.
Slender cotton grass (Eriophorum gracile) is listed by the Forest Service as
Sensitive, but habitat conditions suitable for this species aze lacking in the project azea.
FINDINGS
Drill Site SST-I
This site is located inside the fence line, on private land owned by Arch Coal,
Incorporated, neaz the north comer of the line between the NE & NW '/a , NE '/< of
Section 15, T.14S., R.90W., 6a' PM. (See Figure 1.)
