The operations would take place on National Forest System (NFS) lands on the <br />South Park Ranger District of the Pike National Forest. Each proposal is summarized individually below. <br />The name o£each proposal is based upon the. unpatented mining c1_aim(s} on which-each would occw--.--Sec <br />the enclosed map for the approximate locations of each proposal. <br />The following operators would: <br />/ Install Forest Service approved safety fencing around potentially hazardous disturbed sites for public <br />and wildlife safety. <br />/ Practice interim reclamation such as stockpiling and seeding topsoil, removing garbage on regular <br />basis, recontouring completed disturbed azeas within the operating season, and using Forest Service <br />approved methods of erosion control. <br />/ At the conclusion of mining operation, use Forest Service approved methods to recontour disturbed <br />areas and seed all disturbed areas with native seed. <br />/ Follow all Forest Service recommendations for the protection of surface resources as described in the <br />Forest Service evaluations of the proposed plans of operation. <br />Steele Rose /~"ap~~'C73~ <br />Steele Rose mining proposal is located along La Salle Pass in Park County approximately six miles north of <br />Wilkerson Pass, CO in Section 21 of Township 11 South, Range 73 West, 6th P.M. This mining operation <br />would be year-round, beginning April 2007, and could be authorized for one year through Forest Service <br />approval of a plan of operatons. <br />This proposal would be to use a bobcat and small back hoe to enlarge one existing dig site, currently 250 X <br />30 X 30 feet in size, to 60 feet wide for the purpose of prospecting and exploring for locatable minerals. The <br />workforce would consist of a maximum of eight workers Dn site ten days per nwlith. A small chemical or <br />compost toilet would be used for human waste. The waste would be removed from NFS land and disposed of <br />according to local and state regulations. Existing NFS roads and a 150-foot access road would be used to <br />access the project area. No structures were proposed. No trees would be removed. The operation would <br />occur year round for one year. All excavated material would be removed from NFS land for processing. <br />Black Stone <br />Black Stone mining proposal is located in Teller County approximately six miles north of Lake George, CO <br />in Section 11 of Township 12 South, Range 71 West, 6th P.M. The proposed duration of this minirig <br />operation would be from March to December of 2007 and could be authorized for one year through Forest <br />Service approval of a plan of operations. <br />This proposal would be to use a small back hoe and hand tools to open one 200 X 20 X 15-foot dig site for <br />the purpose of prospectng and exploring for locatable minerals. By continually backfilting, a maximum of <br />one-fifth of the dig site would be open at a time. The workforce would consist of a maximum of three <br />workers on site for 30 continual days.
