This is a shallow, well drained (Class 4) loamy soil which occurs
on basalt colluvium talus with a slope of 60 percent at an elevation of
7300 ft and an aspect of 240 degrees. The soil is formed from basalt
boulders, has no outcrops (rockiness class 0), and 15-70X coverage of
basalt boulders (stoniness class 4). The soils permeability is moderate
(permeability class 4) with rapid runoff (runoff class 4) and no
groundwater. Water has caused slight erosion (water erosion class 1) on
the soil. The climate is semi-arid. The dominant vegetation is Gambel
oak, serviceberry and adapted grasses.
A 0-3 inches. Brown (10 YR 4/3) loam. dark brown (10 YR 3/3)
moist; moderate fine granular primary structure; soft, very
friable, slightly sticky and non plastic; non calcareous; non
alkaline; non saline; clear wavy boundary.
AC 3-8 inches. Dark brown (10 YR 3/3) clay loam. very dark
grayish browh (10 YR 3/2) moist; moderate medium subangular
blocky primary structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly
sticky and slightly plastic; non calcareous; non alkaline;
• non saline; gradual smooth boundary.
C 8-13 inches. Dark brown (10 YR 3/4) clay loam, brown (10 YR
3/2) moist; fine, medium subangular blocky primary structure;
slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic;
non calcareous; non alkaline; non saline.
