Mine Access Road
The existing Mine Access Road consists of two sections; the lower section, which extends
from the mine entrance to where the road crossed the Starkville Gulch diversion; and the
upper section, from the diversion crossing to the Shop Building. The entire access road is
approximately IS to 20 feet wide. This road is shown in plan view on Map 12, Mine Site
Water Systems and Refuse Area. The existing road conforms closely to the existing
topography.
Runoff from the lower section of the access road is controlled by roadside ditches on both
sides of the road. The ditches are designed to collect runoff from the access road and
trailer pad SAE and divert it to the county frontage road drainage system. Runoff from
the upper section of the access road is diverted to the existing sediment pond via Yard
Ditch I, Culvert 3 and Refuse Collection Ditch 1. All drainage structures have been
designed to safely pass the runoff from a 10-year, 24-hour event.
The road will be used for access to the mine site during reclamation activities and routine
maintenance of the site. At the request of the land owner, the access road is to remain
after mining and reclamation is completed.
• Substation Light-Use Road
The substation light-use road provided access to the mine substation area. The road started
at the mine access road, near the invert of the 8' diversion culvert, and ended at the
substation. During backfilling and regrading, the road was eliminated. The location of the
substation light-use road is shown on Map l2, Mine Site Water Systems and Refuse Area.
Pond Light-Use Road
The pond light-use road is constructed between the mine access road and the sediment
pond embankment. The road provides access to the pond for removal of sediment and
routine maintenance and monitoring. The road is approximately 15 feet wide, and
surfaced with red-ash material. This road will remain following reclamation, to provide
landowner access to the pond. The location of the road is shown on Map 12, Mine Site
Water Systems and Refuse Area.
u
351 Revised (TR-17) January 1995
