Benson Brothers Red Shale Pit
DMG 112 Application
Exhibit E- Reclamation Plan
3.1.10 Vegetation on the property will be as recommended by NRCS Delta Field Office.
Seeding will be done by broadcasting at twice the rate recommended by NRCS.
Seeding will follow ripping of compacted azeas. Straw will be used as mulch at 2000
lbs/acre and crimped in place by tracked equipment. Re-vegetation will occur on all
areas of replaced topsoil.
The seed will be broadcast between September 1 to October 15 or March 15 and April
30 after ripping any compacted azeas.
Spraying according to an approved Delta County Weed Mitigation Plan will control
weeds.
The access and haul road established for this operation will be left in place for the land
owner's use after mining and reclamation aze complete. These azeas will not be re-
vegetated.
3.1.11 There are no buildings or structures on this site and there are no structures planned in
conjunction with this operation.
3.1.12 The operator will post the required sign at the entrance to the mine.
The boundaries of the affected area will be delineated by existing fences or steel mazker
posts before mining begins.
d) Topsoil will be removed from all areas to be disturbed and stockpiled in the process area or on
previously mined benches. It will be stabilized by broadcasting with a grass seed mix as
recommended by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Delta Office. Overburden will
then be removed and stockpiled in a similar manner. Overburden will be accessible for
backfilling and final grading as needed. The topsoil will be spread after final grading of
overburden. Seeding of reclaimed areas will occur between September 1 to October 15 or
Mazch 15 and Apri130 using the species and quantities recommended in the NRCS report plus
21bs/acre of birdsfoot trefoil, .21bs/acre Big Sagebrush, and .21bs/acre Utah Serviceberry.
e) Reclamation if this site will consist of reducing high-walls to 2:1 (h:v) and grading lower
benches as mining progresses to create higher benches up toward the top of the ridge. High-
walls will be limited to about 20 to 25 feet before a new bench will be created above the high-
wall. Reclamation will follow completion of mining on each bench as soon as possible and
about 3 acres of un-graded disturbance will be present in the mining azea at any one time.
Topsoil will be replaced and grass seed planted within two yeazs of final grading in a given
azea We expect the life of the mine to be approximately 20 yeazs with the target date of fall of
2026 for completion of mining activities
f) (i) Final grading will leave a slope and bench configuration with no slope steeper than 2:1 (h:v).
The reclaimed mined area will slope to the north from the lowered ridge top.
(ii) The Natural Resources Conservation Services report in Exhibit I recommends reseeding with
the mix listed below. Division of Minerals and Geology staff recommended the addition of
birdsfoot trefoil and the shrubs. The seed will be broadcast, at the rate indicated below, between
September 1 to October 15 or March 15 and Apri130, after replacement of topsoil on reclaimed
azeas.
