(c) A _plan for backfill~,_soil stabilization, compacting, and
• grading,_with_ contour maps and appropriate cross-sections that show the
anticipated final surface_ configuration of t_he proposed permit area, in
accordance with 4.14 and for stream channel_ reconstruction in accordance
with 4.50.4.
RESPONSE:
In order to complete the channel repair work by October 31, 1987, a
number of steps will have to be followed in each of the areas. The
repair areas are as follows:
Area Channel Length Access Corridor/Work Area Acreage
(feet)
7 551 9
31-1 640
11
31-2 310
41 3300 7
51 445 10
51W 395 6
•
Prior to beginning work on the channel, an access corridor into the
site along with a work area parallel to the channel will be
constructed. The access corridor (approximately 100-150 feet wide),
will have the topsoil removed (approximately 18 inches deep) by blading
it to the side of the cor•ridor•. Topsoil marker signs will be placed in
the windrowed soil to minimize the potential for contaminating the
soil. If it proves more efficient, the topsoil may be picked up by
scrapers and placed in a temporary stockpile adjacent to the corridor
and work area. The stockpile would be marked with the appropriate
signs.
The work area will be constructed on either side of the channel or if
conditions allow, just on one side. The total width of the work area
will be about 200 feet plus channel width, except for the upstream and
downstream gradient ends which will have an approximate 150 feet radius
cleared around the ends. The work area will be stripped of topsoil,
approximately 18 inches deep, prior to commencing work on the channel.
The topsoil will be windrowed to the side and appropriately marked. If
it is more efficient, the topsoil may be picked up with scrapers and
transported to a stockpile adjacent to the work area for temporary
storage.
In the event the topsoil is stockpiled for more than one growing
season, it will be stabilized witfr the topsoil stockpile seed mixture.
It is Colorado Yampa Coal Company's intention to reduce the amount of
disturbance associated with the channel repair. When possible, the
areal extent of disturbance will be minimized.
•
Within the access corridor and work area the exposed spoil will be
graded to allow safe and efficient working conditions. Upon completion
of the work, the spoil will he regraded to blend in with the
surrounding topography.
TR89-2~
- 51 -
Revised 03/01/89
