The Longwall shearer travels
• along and loads the coal on an armored face conveyor. The armored face
conveyor runs the length of the face and discharges the coal onto a stage
loader, which dumps the coal onto the conveyor belt. The roof is supported
in the working area by two leg shield supports. The whole system is self-
advancing through the use of hydraulic rams, and is staffed by approxima-
tely 10 men per shift. The balance of the mine labor is used in support
work, transporting materials, constructing ventilation structures, doing
supplemental roof support, cleaning, maintaining and repairing conveyors,
laying track, etc. Past 1985 the operating plan will be essentially the
plan for the E Seam, except that it will take place in the Wild and D
Seams.
Production will not exceed 1.5 million tons per year in the East and
•
West Portals separately.
