Revision
February 1982
C7
Air raises (or slopes) will be developed to provide sufficient ven-
tilation to safely mine this properly. Portals to these air raises have
been placed to avoid excessive rock work.
The First Raise and the main slopes will be developed and maintained
with 300-foot barrier pillars on each side of the set of entries. The First
East and Sixth East Mains will provide access to leased property to the east.
These mains will have 300-foot barriers unless there proves to be no coal to
the east, in which case the mains and barriers will be extracted. The
remaining coal will be fully extracted (to the extent possible) leaving
future access only along the Main Slope (Exhibits 2.05.2-A through 2.05.2-C ).
The leases will be mined with one or a combination of three tech-
•
s
niques: room and pillar; continuous miners, and; retreating longwall.
The East Lease will be mined with continuous miners and shuttle cars,
utilizing conveyor belts for haulage. The U.S. Steel Lease will be mined
with Joy continuous miners and shuttle cars to develop main entries and
longwall panel entries. Other locations in the East and West Portals will
utilize longwall and continuous miners depending on mined-out sections and
roof or floor conditions (Exhibits 2.05.2-A through 2.05.2-C). Thickness
of coal, which can vary in the mine, will also dictate the type of mining
(Exhibits 2.04.6-A through 2.04.6-J).
2.05-2~
