z
The area will be either drilled or broadcasted. If broadcasting
is used, then the above species mixture will be doubled.
After seeding is completed, mulching will be applied. A straw
mulch will be used on the level areas (up to 4 to 1 slopes) at a rate of
3,000 lbs/acre. This will be crimped in to secure it. On the steeper
areas (3 to 1 or greater) a woodfiber or silva fiber will be sprayed on
at a rate of 3,000 lbs/acre. This will all be done in the late fall
to take advantage of winter and early spring moisture.
Phase II - Developing Quarry Site
The developing quarry sites (area 3 and 4 in Exhibit C) will be
• revegetated as mining progresses. Reclamation of the. newly depleted areas
will follow the mining phase as closely as practical.
The same fertilization, seeding, and mulching sequence discussed
above will be used.
The depleted lower quarry (Area 2 in Exhibit C) will be reopened
in about ten years and be active for about 25 years; therefore, no
revegetation will be done there at this time. Its reclamation will be
described in the 20-year revision plan.
Note: The seed mixtures, fertilizer, seeding time, mulching, and
seeding method were recommended specifically for this site
by the Department of Range Science, Colorado State University,
Fort Collins, Colorado.
C~
