2.06.2 Experimental Practices Mining
•
No experimental practices for mining will be undertaken by Peerless
Resources; therefore, this Section will not be applicable to the permit
application.
2.06.3 Mountaintop Removal Mining
No mountaintop mining is planned by Peerless Resources; therefore, this
Section is not applicable to the Coal Gulch Mine.
2.06.4 Steep Slope Mining
As discussed in Sections 2.05.3 and 2.05.4, the area to be used for
surface facilities for the underground coal mining operations of
Peerless Resources have been disturbed by previous mining. In fact, an
old highwall is still present from this previous mining. The use of
• this old mining area will reduce the amount of disturbance necessary to
conduct the underground mining operations. The existing highwalls of
the past mining operation are located in an area where the slopes are
greater than 20 degrees; Peerless Resources plans to utilize this
highwall for the portals of the planned underground mining.
No reclamation work has been performed on the existing highwall area.
This area has remained unreclaimed since the late 1970's. No stability
or safety problems with the face-up have been encountered since that
time. Peerless Resources plans to utilize this old mining and highwall
area for a portal face-up. Drainage off the portal face-up will be
treated similar to a contour furrow with periodic baffles and with a
bench sloping into the hill. This configuration will prevent drainage
from flowing over the top of the bench. A complete description of the
planned reclamation and revegetation procedures to be used on the
face-up area are set forth in Section 2.05.4.
n
LJ
2.06-2
