<br />The majority of the property is generally vacant and used for livestock grazing, however, an existing residence <br />and two sheds are situated in the northeast comer of the property. A hay shed is also situated in the southeaztem <br />comer of the property. A number of existing fencelines were also observed on the property, az well az along the <br />approximate property lines. The majority of [he property is vegetated with grasses, weeds and sage brush, <br />however, we did observe some cattails and wetland grasses along the seazonal drainage, noted previously, and the <br />hillside wetland area situated in the southwest comer of the northeast quarter of the property. <br />It is our understanding that a high pressure natural gas line is situated on the property and the gas line runs in a <br />northeast [o southwest direction from the northeast corner of the property to the approximate mid point of the <br />west property line. It is also our understanding that the gas line is situated within a 50 foot wide easement. It <br />~ should be noted that the location of the gas line and eazement are not readily apparent in the field. The only <br />visible signs of the gas line or easement are the gas line markers which were observed along the west property line <br />and just south of the residence situated in the northeast comer of the property. <br />The topography of the site is variable and generally the property slopes gently to steeply down to the seazonal <br />drainage which crosses the site in a southeast to northwest direction. The portion of the property which is situated <br />to the west of the drainage and is to be mined generally slopes gently to steeply down to the northeast towards the <br />drainage at 4 to 20 percent. The property situated along the east side of the drainage generally slopes very gently <br />to steeply down to the west-southwest towards the drainage at 2 to 30 percent. <br />FIELD INVESTIGATION <br />The field investigation for this project was conducted on May 13, 1998. Three (3) test holes were advanced at the <br />approximate locations shown on Figure #2 to explore the subsurface conditions within the proposed mining area. <br />Locations of the test holes were determined by taping from features shown on the site plan provided by the client. <br />~ The elevations of the test holes were determined by interpolating between the contours shown on the site plan. <br />The test holes were advanced through the overburden soils with atrack-mounted SMA 45 drill rig utilizing 4-inch <br />diameter continuous Flight power augers. The test pits were logged by a representative of Northwest Colorado <br />Consultants, Inc. <br />Samples of the subsurface materials were taken with a 2-inch I.D. California liner sampler and a 1 3/8-inch split <br />spoon sampler. The sampler was driving into the various strata with blows from a 140-pound hammer falling 30 <br />inches. This test is similar to the standard penetration test described by ASTM Method D1586. Penetration <br />values, when properly evaluated, indicate the relative density or consistency of the soils.
