geotechnical engineering considerations and site conditions related to construction of the proposed cut/fill slopes
and haul roads are included.
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION
Based on the plans provided by the client, it appeazs that the portion of the property which is [o be mined is
situated to the west of the seasonal drainage which generally flows in a southeast to northwest direction from the
southeast corner of the property to the mid point of the north property line. The western edge of the proposed
mining azea is [o be situated at least 50 feet from the centerline of [he drainage. The mining area will extend [o
~ the south, west and north to the respective property lines. The portion of the property in which the 50 foot wide
gas line easement crosses will not be mined. Based on the cross section provided by the client, it appears that the
mine pit floor will be constructed at an elevation of approximately 6,591 feet. Based on elevations of surrounding
ground, it appears that the depth of the mined area will range from 5 feet along the eastern edge of the site to
approximately 30 feet at it's deepest point along the western edge of the property. Based on our discussions with
the client and pit operator, C.D. Johnson, it appeazs that the gravels will be mined from a certain portion of the
pit until the proposed pit floor elevation has been reached. As the mine excavation progresses outward, the
overburden soils (clays) being mined from the new excavation will be placed back in the floor of the pit for
reclamation. it is our understanding that the fill placed in the reclaimed areas will be constructed to a
3(horizontal) : 1(vertical) or flatter slope configuration.
The proposed haul road will begin at the northeast comer of dte property from its intersection with Rout[ County
Road #33A (RCR #33A) and proceed to the south for approximately 225 feet along the east property line. The
haul road will then [um and proceed in a southwesterly direction for approximately 250 feet and then turn and
proceed south for approximately 400 feet. The haul road then proceeds in a southwest and westerly direction
across the existing drainage. After the haul road enters the mined area, i[ proceeds approximately 900 feet in a
~ northerly direction along the eastern edge of the mined azea. Near the northern edge of the mined area, the haul
road turns and heads in a southwestern direction and then runs along the western edge of the mined area. It
appears that the haul road will cross the gas line easement in three different locations.
SITE CONDITIONS
The project site is situated southwest of RCR #33A and approximately 1/2 mile south of U.S. Highway 40 in
Routt County, Colorado. The northeast comer of the subject property is situated along the west side of RCR
#33A where the county road has been constructed with a 90 degree [urn and changes from anorth-south direction
to a west-east direction.
• Job No. 98-3564 Nonhwat Colorado Consultants, Inc.
