1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the information required under the Colorado Mine land Reclama-
tion Board, Tentative Soil and Overburden Guidelines. In addition this report
contains the information required under the OSM Permanent Regulatory Program -
Surface Coal Mining and Reclamation Operation, Part 783, Underground Mining Permit
Applications; Minimum Requirements for Information on Environmental Resources.
Presented in this report are:
o A map delineating different soils of the permit area
o A map legend
o Soil profile descriptions
o Present and potential productivity of the soils
o Evaluation of the soils as a reconstruction material for disturbed lands
o Volumes of suitable reconstruction material available.
The soi 1 map ( i n pocket) i s adapted from the U. S. Depar*~rnent of Agricul ture Soi 1
Conservation Service (SCS) intensity II survey for the permit area. The SCS mapping
was transferred from a map of one inch equals 1,000 feet !1:12,000) to a map of one
inch equals 200 feet (1:3,000). Additional field mapping has been conducted and the
mapping refined for approximately 220 acres during the field sampling program.
The soil map legend (Section 2.0), describes the series in each map ,unit, their
occurrence and the percentage of the map unit each series occupies. The legend also
describes the map symbols used.
Five soil series descriptions (and a group and subgroup description) of the prin-
cipal soils of the permit area are presented in Section 3.0. These descriptions are
from the SCS established survey descriptions. In addition, profile descriptions of
the principal soils of the permit area were collected in the field in May, 1979.
These descriptions are included in Appendix I. The described pedons were compared
to the established sail series to confirm the mapping.

- 1 -
