I'

ASBTRACT
Basin Resources, Inc. contracted Powers Elevation Co., Inc. tc
complete a cultural resources inventory of 14 drill hole
locations and five access roads within the boundaries of the
Golden Eagle Mine's permit area. The project area encompasses
approximately 50 acres and is located a few miles west of the
town of Weston, in Las Animas County, Colorado. The project
goals were to identify and evaluate any cultural resources within
the project area. Two previous archaeological surveys have been
conducted in the mine area and as a result, there is one recorded
site; it is, however, outside the present project area. One
isolated find (5LA6419) was identified during the inventory of
the proposed drill holes and access roads. This isolated
artifact is considered not eligible for listing on the National
Register of Historic Places and no further work is recommended
for this location. As it appears that no significant cultural
resources will be affected by the proposed action, it is
recommended that the project be allowed to proceed as planned.
